Things to Consider When Using a Body Fat Analyzer

They come in a variety of shapes and sizes, but the concept of their use and operation is generally the same. Electronic body fat analyzers work on the concept of bioelectric impedance. A very low level electronic pulse is painlessly sent through the body, and the analyzing device measures the level of impedance as the electricity leaves and returns to the analyzer itself. Since fat within the body presents a greater level of impedance than muscle, an electronic body fat analyzer is able to make an accurate estimate based on data describing the rate at which electricity is able to pass through the body.

Use Correct Timing

Be sure to collect your measurements at the same time every day, and also ensure you are using the same device every time you take measurements. It is also excellent motivation for whatever number shows up on the scale. If your weight drops, the feeling of accomplishment gives you motivation to keep pushing, and if your weight increases, you know that you may need to make further adjustments to reach your goals.

If you just can’t help it and feel compelled to get on the scale more than once a day, realize that your weight and other measurements fluctuate throughout the day, so what you see on the scale may be deceiving. Also if your getting on the scale more than once per day, be sure to measure your body fat at various intervals in the day at the same time each day. With these measurements, you can get a good average daily BF reading which will give you an accurate picture of your overall progress. If you’re sticking to once a day, be sure it’s always going to be at the same time.

Clothes Affect Your Results

The clothes you wear matter, so be sure you are wearing the same thing every time you take your measurements. If you’re jumping on the scale only in the morning or the evening, then you might even consider being naked or only in your undergarments when measuring your body fat and overall weight. This way you wont get excess electrical impedance and your weight measurements wont become skewed.

Food in the Stomach Makes a Difference

What you have or do not have in your stomach will have an affect on your body fat measurements. This is why it is a good idea to only take measurements or weigh yourself in the mornings when you have most likely finished using the restroom, you have not eaten in at least eight hours, and you have sweated off some excess water weight during your sleep. Keep in mind that various types of diets – for instance low carb, very low calorie, etc. – cause a rapid decrease in water weight and muscle, so realize that being on such a diet will have a different affect on body fat content than being on a balanced nutritional plan.

Taking regular measurements using a body fat analyzer plays a key role in long-term, healthy weight loss success. You can easily track changes in your BF percentage as you move closer to your goals, and you’ll easily tell when you are losing body fat and gaining muscle.
